A Certified Behavior Analyst is a professional who applies the science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in order to teach and modify socially significant behaviors and reduce problematic ones, with the aim of improving the quality of individuals life. Such professional has the essential role to guarantee the effectiveness of the specific intervention that in being implemented and the supervision of his ABA technicians.
Currently, in Italy, a specific recognition for individuals with a certification as Behavioral Technician, Assistant Behavior Analyst and Behavior Analyst is lacking, due to the decision that has been taken by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), of not certifying new professional that are not part of the USA or Canada, starting from the year 2023. For such specific reason, we have decided to give start to a SIG that can:
1) Define the criteria related to the certification and accreditation
2) Follow both the Italian criteria and the international standards that have been promoted and defined by ABAI
3) Continue sharing any updates in relation to the field of Applied Behavior Analysis
4) Support individuals that use of ABA services
5) Support the professionals of the ABA field
The mission of this SIG will be, therefore, to discuss and promote:
– Quality training courses in behavior analysis through ABAI approved VCS courses
– Criteria for supervised practice required for future behavior analysts
– Mandatory continuous training for behavior analyst in Italy, adequate to international standards, in order to protect ABA services, users and professionals.
